Oklahoma along with several other state’s will be hosting a Tax Free Weekend August 4th – August 6th for clothes and shoes under $100. Many states offer this type of weekend to assist families with expenses of Back-to-School items. There are a few things to remember as you make your way to the stores this weekend.
- Make sure you are buying items you need. Making a lot of special purchases this weekend may not save you as much as you think. Sales Tax is usually less then a 10% discount.
- Stack your discounts. Look for items already marked 25-30% off. This will help your savings be much greater then a regular priced item with no tax.
- Double check at the register. Make sure an item you are purchasing qualify under the tax free status. Not everything is tax free this weekend. Even some clothing and shoes are exempt from the list!
The best practice when shopping a “special” weekend like Tax Free or Black Friday is to plan carefully and make needed purchases. A well planned shopping list is always the best way to save money no matter what the weekend or occasion.
